These aligner trays are made of smooth, comfortable, and virtually invisible plastic that you wear over your teeth. They gradually and gently shift your teeth into place. There are no metal brackets to attach and no wires to tighten — simply pop in a new set of aligners approximately every two weeks until your treatment is complete. With this cosmetic dentistry solution, you’ll achieve a great smile with little interference to your daily life.

  • Easily remove aligners for cleaning
  • Invisalign® is a popular choice for teens and adults in Abbotsford
  • We are the best Invisalign® provider in Abbotsford

What is Invisalign®?

How Does Invisalign® Work?

Invisalign® exerts consistent pressure on specific sections of the periodontal ligament, which gradually shifts the teeth and allows for bone remodelling. The treatment targets the periodontal ligament because it connects teeth to the alveolar bone in the jaw. When the periodontal ligament responds to the pressure, it adjusts and remodels itself accordingly until teeth align within the jawbone. Correct alignment cannot happen without the customised nature of the clear aligners, which are modelled in the image of your mouth — thanks to 3D imaging technology. Rather than using gag-inducing dental putty, we use an intraoral scanner to capture your unique dental impression. This forms the template for creating your customised clear aligners.

Invisalign® Benefits

Some refer to Invisalign® as ‘invisible braces’ because it retains the teeth-straightening function of traditional braces — but without the instantly noticeable appearance. While you will see a difference between your Invisalign® Before and After photos, your near-invisible aligners will likely go unnoticed by many while you’re receiving Invisalign® treatment in real-time. As well as having a discreet appearance, Invisalign® is also comfortable to wear. You can remove it to eat, drink, and brush your teeth, making it a naturally cleaner option than braces, which often accumulate hard-to-remove food particles.

The Invisalign® Treatment Process at Abbotsford Dental

Initial Consultation

The first step is the easiest: simply book an appointment through our online portal, or call our Invisalign® dentist in Abbotsford at (03) 9410 1077. At your initial consultation, we will create a customised treatment plan specifically for you. Your dentist will take X-rays, pictures, and impressions of your teeth, which Invisalign® will use to create a digital 3D image. From these images, your dentist will map out a precise treatment plan and tell you the approximate length of treatment. Using the same technology, your dentist will show you a virtual representation of how your teeth will move at each stage of the treatment. While every case is unique for each patient, treatment typically takes approximately a year for adults. For teens, the length of treatment is comparable to that of braces (approximately 18–24 months).

Wearing Your Aligners

Based on your individual treatment plan, Abbotsford Dental will create a series of custom-made, clear aligners specifically for you. These aligners are made of a smooth, comfortable, BPA-free plastic that won’t irritate your cheeks and gums like traditional metal braces often do. Simply wear them for 22 hours each day, removing them only to eat or to brush and floss your teeth. As your teeth shift into place, you will need to change to a new set of aligners every one to two weeks. While this will involve frequent admin, the payoff is a more discreet, comfortable alternative to traditional braces.

Progress Check-Ups

Speaking of admin, Invisalign® treatment will necessitate check-ups every six to eight weeks. When you make an Invisalign® appointment at Abbotsford Dental, our experienced team will track your progress, checking that everything is shifting into place. We do this by examining your aligners for a correct fit, comparing your teeth’s current positioning relative to where it began (sometimes using X-rays), and responding to any feedback you may have regarding discomfort or an ill fit. Based on our observations and your feedback, we then make adjustments to the appliance(s) or treatment plan if appropriate.

Is Invisalign® Right for You?

Your candidacy for Invisalign® may also depend heavily on the type of dental work that you need. Invisalign® can correct many dental issues, but there are also issues that it cannot solve. Crooked teeth, gapped teeth, and crowded teeth can all be addressed with Invisalign®, which is great for teens and adults in Abbotsford. But if you need to correct more deep-seated jaw issues like an overbite or underbite, your dentist will almost undoubtedly recommend traditional braces instead.

A good candidate for Invisalign® is a patient with a strong sense of self-discipline. Invisalign® may be removable, but the aligners must be worn for at least 22 hours per day to work their magic. You must have the motivation to reliably wear your aligner trays for a suitable amount of time, or risk significantly slowing down the timeline for achieving the results that you want. For reference, standard treatment durations typically fall within the range of 6 to 18 months.

Cost of Invisalign® at Abbotsford Dental

Invisalign plans start from as little as $3000, with the average plan being around $6500. Let’s break it down further:

Factors Affecting Invisalign® Cost

Like treatments received during dental emergencies, Invisalign® has no flat rate, with factors such as case complexity and treatment duration affecting the final bill. We can’t put an exact price on Invisalign®, but you’ll often find the cost comparable to that of traditional braces. Whatever the end total, virtually all our patients find a straighter, healthier smile to be a thoroughly worthwhile investment. When your teeth align, so do various aspects of your health — from your dental and orthodontic health to your emotional well-being, which is bolstered by a confident grin.

Payment Plans & Financing

We want you to access affordable Invisalign® — that’s why Abbotsford Dental has convenient financing options available. Patients paying one-third (or more) of the cost of their Invisalign® treatment can take advantage of our Abbotsford Dental in-house financing. If you’re unable to pay this instalment (or unwilling to agree to the associated terms), you may prefer our finance partner, MacCredit: a personal broker that offers payment plans for medical, dental, and cosmetic patients requiring procedures sooner rather than later.

Did you know you can pay for your clear aligners at Abbotsford using Afterpay? Even if you’ve never used Afterpay before, paying in four instalments may be more affordable than paying for your Invisalign® treatment upfront at Abbotsford Dental’s front desk. Getting started with Afterpay is easy — all you need to do is download the app and sign up. Before your appointment, make sure you’ve tapped the barcode icon to accordingly adjust your spending limit. After your appointment, simply generate a barcode for our staff to scan — Afterpay will deduct your first fortnightly payment from there.

Do you have private health insurance? Our clinic has a nifty HICAPS machine that instantly processes claims for most health funds. On the off chance your health fund is unaffiliated with HICAPS, we will issue you with an itemised receipt, which your health fund can reimburse from their end. We also offer SuperCare: a scheme whereby you can apply for an early release of your superannuation to help cover dental or orthodontic work.

To determine the best payment plan for you, speak to your dentist about your options at your initial consultation.

FAQs

1. How long does Invisalign® typically take?

On average, Invisalign®’s teeth-straightening transformation should take 6 to 18 months — but particularly complex cases can take longer.
Generally, most plans finish within a year, with some (particularly teenagers) taking up to 18 months. If your plan needs to take longer than this, we generally refer out to a specialist. Ultimately, it depends on the state of the teeth we’re dealing with!

2. Is Invisalign® painful?

You shouldn’t feel any pain from Invisalign® — although you may experience mild discomfort (especially if you’re transitioning from braces to aligners). In any case, Invisalign® is almost always less painful than traditional braces. Our team also offer tips and tricks to help you reduce discomfort when changing trays.

3. Can I eat and drink normally with Invisalign®?

Invisalign® doesn’t require dietary changes, but you must remove your clear aligners when consuming anything other than water. When you’re finished eating or drinking, you should also brush your teeth before placing your aligners back in your mouth.

4. How do I clean my aligners?

For daily cleaning, use a soft-bristled brush to clean your aligners with clear, unscented soap. Remember to rinse them before and after this step using lukewarm water — never use hot water, as this can warp the aligners’ plastic material. For a weekly deep clean, soak your aligners in lukewarm water and mild soap or an aligner-cleaning solution. Never use harsh chemicals.
In most cases, you can just use standard toothpaste to clean your aligners because you’ll be changing your trays every 1 to 2 weeks. You’ve usually got a fresh set before they’ve had a chance to get grotty!

5. Is Invisalign® covered by dental insurance?

Coverage varies by policy. Check with your insurance provider to find out for sure, or discuss your payment plan options during your initial consultation.
