Tooth Savior – Root Canal Treatment

People are often overwhelmed with anxiety and fear when they hear about dental treatment and are particularly scared of a root canal treatment. The teeth saving treatment might look unpleasant but it can save your tooth. With the advancement in modern technology, this treatment is not so unpleasant after all. In fact, if you receive dental care from a qualified and expert dentist, the less pain you’ll feel with bore surface needles. Read the whole article for more information about Root Canal Treatment.

What is a Root Canal?

A root canal is a space inside the root of a tooth. It is a naturally existing space within the tooth that is made up of the pulp chamber, the main canal, and more complicated anatomical branches that may hold the root canals to the surface of the root. Every root may consist of one or two canals. This space is filled with a highly vascularised, loose connective tissue; the dental pulp. The dental pulp is the tissue which creates the dentin portion of the tooth. In this treatment, the infected area is cleaned till the time it is free from bacteria. After disinfecting the affected part, it is sterilized and hermetically filled and later sealed with a crown.

How the Treatment is Done

The treatment is required when the tooth’s root becomes infected or aggravate through injury or advanced decay. Anesthesia is applied on the tooth and the dentist would drill a hole through the crown of the tooth to reach the pulp chamber. Special files are used to clean the infected pulp out of the canal. The canal is filled with a lasting material like gutta-percha, which helps to keep the canals free of infection. The filling material is placed on the top of the gutta-percha to seal the opening till the time tooth is ready to be prepared for a crown. A crown is also called a cap which looks like a natural tooth and is settled on the top of the tooth.

This treatment is a way to save the tooth, and to soothe awful pain. Usually, the treatment is obtained by placing a cap on the affected tooth. As everybody knows this treatment is a very painful treatment. But think of the treatment in this way: to get rid of pain, you have to go through pain to some extent. So in this case, a Root canal can be a tooth savior.
